Character's name: “Venus” Dee Milo
Character's DW: look_ma_no_arms
Character's canon: X-Statix (Marvel)
Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character:
Venus Dee Milo has always been reaching to become what society tells her she should be; in her mind, due to her tragic history and media-soaked culture, that is both a superhero and a starlet. She has been striving for redemption since she accidentally ‘killed’ her family, and in her efforts to become the perfect woman, she has become hungry for fame and fortune. The X-Statix team allowed her to fulfill both dreams simultaneously, and since being hired she has put as much distance between her public persona and her background as possible. She’s desperate for money to hide her poor history; eager for accolades to combat her poor self-esteem; and she seeks good deeds to fight that niggling feeling that the death of her family makes her a bad person.
As an X-Statix, Venus is the most level-headed and compassionate of the group. She has a tendency towards loyalty and can be very pushy and even emotionally manipulative to get her way, although she does not recognize herself as such. Venus is convinced that she cannot allow herself a ‘dark side’ and thus has a tendency to deny any wrongdoing. She fears that any evil will would relate to her killing her family, and thus tries to stay ‘pure’. That said, she has severe self-esteem issues, and admits in the canon that she has manic depression and has attempted suicide three times.
In a group dynamic Venus is sassy but not too overbearingly sarcastic, tending to only speak up when directly addressed or when she holds a passionate opinion. In one on one dynamics, Venus is a bit more playful and snarky. She has a tendency to feel threatened by other women but does not attempt to be seductive towards men. The persona she presents to the public is a sex bomb, but in romantic relationships she is faithful and tentative. She has more bravado than she actually feels.
Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:
Wiki. Venus is cut off from moments before she and Guy have sex and discover that her family is still alive.
Sample post (just a general, everyday, puttering-around-the-ship post; please include a snippet of dialogue):
It’s a strange sensation, anonymity. Normally, walking around the ship, Venus would be tailed by paparazzi. Cameras would flash in her wake. Cars would stop; people would point and stare. A young fan might rush forward and demand Venus sign their arm, with hopes of getting the handwriting tattooed on later.
That’s no longer the case here, and for the first time in a while, Venus realizes she’s not entirely sure who she is under all that glitz and glam.
“Not that that holds a girl down,” she reminds herself, but she finds herself still holding her chin high and angling her hips just so, as if she’s constantly being watched in these dim fleshy corridors. Maybe she is. Hard to tell with this ship.
The bathhouse seems an appropriate place to collect her thoughts, so she reclines there and thinks how odd it is to not have a swimsuit to put over her, well, normal suit. Possibly this is the Dee Milo version of going nude. She slips into some of the hot water and, foot angled like a dancer, lifts a leg up and wiggles her toes. The delight of a warm bath can never be underestimated, even a universe away from home.
If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
Venus is a being of pure kinetic energy who is only capable of a corporeal form through the use of her containment suit. By allowing small bits of her ‘body’ to escape the suit, she can use her energy as an offensive weapon (force blasts) or to heal minor injuries (the nature of the healing is unknown, but the canon notes that she is only capable restoring relatively minor damage). However, her most useful capability is teleportation; Venus can safely teleport herself and groups of people (approximately seven or eight) with pinpoint accuracy as far as across the globe. She must be able to envision the location, though, so blind jumping is not an option.
Teleporting in quick succession or too many people leaves Venus not only exhausted, but disoriented and molecularly unstable. She hints in the canon that she is literally incapable of teleporting if her energy gets too scrambled, and must take breaks between extensive teleporting or risk disincorporation. She also puts herself at risk if she teleports within seconds of her last jump. If she is too strained by her teleportation, she must remain in stasis for days afterwards to stabilize.
At risk to herself, Venus canonically teleports upwards of six helicopters filled with people and machinery far away; however, the strain disincorporates and kills her.
Non-superhuman special abilities of note (Is your character a master ventriloquist? A naturally-occurring super-genius? The best martial artist in the world? Say so here): None.
